Nintendo are claiming they’ve shifted ‘just shy of’ 400,000 3DS consoles in the United States after just one week.

In a press release issued this evening, Nintendo have silenced critics by announcing real numbers, something some thought they wouldn’t be doing.

“Both Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo DS family had a strong month, indicating that Nintendo has something for everyone,” said Charlie Scibetta, Nintendo of America’s senior director of Corporate Communications.

“Nintendo provides people with the best video game experiences, from 3D visuals without special glasses to a touch-screen interface to motion controls.”

Not staggeringly impressive, but – hey – at least we’ve got some numbers to fight over now.

Quote:
The NPD numbers are in and Sony has announced some fantastic figures for the PS3.

As of March 29th the PS3 has managed a “sell in” unit sales number of 50 million worldwide.

As of April 3rd the PlayStation Move has passed eight million units, which is good but lagging behind the more expensive Kinect. A rather interesting figure is the fact there are 155 Move supported games as of the end of March.

Just shy under 400,000 bought the 3DS... yet the only streetpass hit I got from a busy Manchester dinner timer during the school holidays is 1 from a HMV demo stand.

DAMMIT PEOPLE TAKE YOUR 3DS WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO OUT AND PUT IT ON STAND BY Laughing

why would you leave your ds on standby though? surely it's just a waste of battery.

Horizon, it conserves battery. So if you have to do something you can put it on standby for a minute and after you've done what you needed to do you can resume playing.

The reason Worthy wants people to leave it on standby is so that the DS can connect with each other, which is one of the new features of the 3DS.

Yes, it will not save battery as well as turning it off, but turning it off means they can't connect and standby is better than leaving it on.

I'm guessing you are not familiar with the spotpass/streetpass feature of the 3DS, so here is a few pointers:

1) Your supposed to leave your 3DS on standby when not in use or if your charging it to recieve spotpass/streetpass.

2) On standby the 3DS can last 3 days without charging as it uses less of the battery (and thats saying something as playing a game the battery lasts between 3-5 hours which isn't good).

3) When going out with your 3DS on standby in a bag or pocket (whatever you carry it in) it will use STREET PASS when near another 3DS to do various stuff such as add the other persons Mii to yours to use in Mii Plaza (get puzzle pieces and a bigger army in quest), also the figure team battle in Street Fighter (you don't even need the game in for it to work), amongst other things... sadly Nintendo made this idea with Tokyo in mind, so over here people are setting up Street Pass events.

4) If your 3DS is on standby near Wifi you can get a message via SPOT PASS where you can recieve updates and extra stuff (Capcom sent me a password to unlock a gold level 7 Blanka figure for figure battle), also Nintendo will let you know about updates using this too (big update coming next month).

5) If your near wifi and a someone on your friends list is playing a game online, an orange light will flash on your 3DS, then you go to friends, see what game they are playing online and meet them on it.

6) On standby the pedometer will count your steps and for every 100 steps you get a coin (upto 10 a day) to unlock more AR games, to buy stuff for mii plaza (ie; puzzle pieces and warriors for quest) and also buy/unlock stuff in other games (ie; buy more battle figures in Street Fighter).

Maybe if Nintendo shut up about the no glasses 3D (yes we get it already, it's 3D) and atcually bothered to explain their other features more then maybe they wouldn't have people asking for refunds because the 3D is making them ill as they foolishly believe it's just a DSi that is in 3D when it is alot more better and powerful than a DSi (see the 3DS Resident Evil games that are coming to see what I mean as it even puts the PSP to shame).

Again we are not in Tokyo, so unless you live in a capital like London, work in the gaming industry, your going to a big gaming event (ie; gadget show live, E3, etc...), your mate or sibling also has a 3DS or you attend one of the streetpass events that people keep setting up... chances are Streetpass is not that good.

If you think thats funny you should see people shaking it with one hand just to get the steps as it looks like they are giving a handjob (remember they are doing this for the coins too) taking th piss out o

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind, but unlike an atcual pedometer that clips on your belt and is used by fitness fanatics, it is not accurate and it basically counts every shake of the tilt sensors as a step (hence why people are doing the above).
